Join the Trans-Psychoanalysis Listserv
The Trans-Psychoanalysis listserv was started in 2024 to connect transgender, non-binary, Two-Spirit, and gender diverse people with an interest in psychoanalysis. This is a forum for clinicians, academics, artists, and community members to share event information, seek resources, distribute knowledge, refer clients, and form alliances.
We recognize that the psychoanalytic institution is foundationally hostile to trans* subjectivities and has been overarchingly mobilized to undermine our very existence, let alone our theoretical and professional contributions. This digital container for trans* psychoanalytic solidarity is therefore meant to both be a catalyst and to provide refuge.
The group is closed and not publicly archived or searchable in order to support a greater sense of privacy and openness in discussion, though confidentiality can never be fully guaranteed in digital spaces.
While cisgender people may join, the list is intentionally centered around trans* membership and perspectives.
Moderation is provided by Dr. Tobias Wiggins, Myriam Sauer, and M.E. O’Brien.
Those interested in joining can request access through the sign-up link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScj8bXrRKxgXmDqFCaZeQ90B-dPHqIrYocfQM104klY4A2ddA/viewform?usp=dialog
Listserv rules:
1. Posts must be associated with psychoanalysis or framed from a psychoanalytic lens. If you wish to post content that lacks such a clear relationship (including news, psychotherapeutic services etc) please be sure to frame it from a psychoanalytic perspective in some way, broadly defined.
2. Posts must be associated with transgender, non-binary, Two-Spirit, and gender diverse identities and other marginalized intersections of identity and experience.
3. Cisgender people can join this listserv, however, we do aim to have a trans* majority membership. Please note that your request to join may be denied so that we may maintain a trans*-focused space.
4. Posts must be respectful. They may not contain any oppressive or prejudiced language and behaviour, such as racism, sexism, transmisogyny, ableism, classism, sex worker stigma, HIV stigma, etc. Do use content notes when relevant (e.g. anti-trans violence) and be mindful of the readership’s psychical wellbeing. This is a pro-Palestine and anti-colonial forum. Any type of “debate” that encourages the debasement of marginalized communities will not be tolerated.
