The Tiresias Salon, my bi-weekly trans-centered psychoanalytic reading group, starting this April. What began as a small experiment in collective study has become one of my favourite intellectual and community spaces. It’s a room (virtual) where internationally situated queer and trans thinkers gather to wrestle with psychoanalytic texts together from a critical and intersectional lens.
The Salon is committed to exploring how psychoanalysis can illuminate questions of gender, race, desire, embodiment, violence, and their relationship to the unconscious. This year’s readings are shaped both by participant input and by a shared concern with our current social and political moment. We’ll be thinking together about:
trans identity and critiques of transgender liberalism
decolonizing psychoanalysis and political clinical praxis
fascism and authoritarian formations
social dreaming and collective psychic life
colonial relations and critiques of liberal subjectivity
psychoanalysis as a social project (including free clinics)
difficult feelings - ambivalence, frustration, and love
Who this is for
The group is open to anyone curious about psychoanalysis. You might be a clinician wanting to think more deeply about your practice, a scholar working with psychoanalytic theory, someone interested in the political and social life of the unconscious, or simply someone who wants to read, think, and feel in community.
You do not need prior experience with psychoanalysis, but some will be helpful. We try and mix clinical discussion with theoretical insight. This is a space for collective thinking, not performance or expertise.

If this feels like a space you’ve been looking for, I’d love to have you in the room.
